Advance Mathematics - Singapore Curriculum, CPA Method

In this Singapore Math course, we use a 3-step progression approach Concrete, Pictorial, and Abstract (CPA) to explain mathematical concepts. The concrete step involves using physical objects for counting and calculating. The pictorial step uses drawings and images to represent these objects. The abstract step moves on to numbers and symbols. Remember, our teaching focus is on understanding and not just memorising. Use problem-solving tasks and real-life examples as much as possible. Provide lots of practice and formative feedback to ensure students are progressing in their understanding of the concepts.

The Program focuses on:

  • Concrete Learning: Introducing math concepts through hands-on activities with physical objects.

  • Pictorial Learning: Bridging the gap between concrete and abstract with visual representations.

  • Abstract Learning: Advancing to numbers and symbols for more complex mathematical operations.

  • Comprehension Focus: Prioritizing understanding over rote memorization.
